Afterglow Support
Something broken, an idea, or a question?
Write to us. It goes to a person, not a form, and you will get an answer.
From inside the app: Settings → Contact → Get in touch. That carries your app version and iOS version in the message, which saves a round of questions.
1. Your journal and where it lives
Everything you write stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. There are no Afterglow accounts and no sign-in. We cannot read your entries and we have no copy of them.
That also means nobody can recover your journal for you. If you want a copy you can hold on to, export one: Settings → Your journal → Export backup.
2. When entries don't appear on another device
Afterglow syncs through iCloud rather than through us, so almost everything here is an iCloud setting:
- Both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account, with iCloud Drive on.
- Check Afterglow is allowed: iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → see all → Afterglow.
- Low Power Mode and a poor connection both delay a sync rather than stop it. Opening the app on both devices and leaving it open for a minute usually settles it.
- Afterglow shows what it knows about sync in Settings → Your journal, including when it last reached iCloud.
Settings themselves do not sync. Private tags, the hiding switches, the reminder and your answer about AI are kept per device, so a second device starts from the defaults and asks you again.
3. Turning AI features on and off
AI features are off until you allow them, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings → AI. With them off, nothing leaves your device for them, and writing, photos, video, dictation, search and tags you add yourself all still work.
Settings → AI → What gets sent lists exactly what each feature sends, item by item.
AI output can be inaccurate. It can misread what you meant and sometimes includes details that were never in your journal. What you wrote is the record. None of it is advice, and it is not a doctor, a therapist, a lawyer or a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking of hurting yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
4. Tags that are wrong, and private tags
Afterglow suggests tags for the people, places, activities and feelings in an entry, and shows the words each one came from. Open an entry, tap tags, then tap any tag to change it, confirm it or take it away. A correction sticks: re-reading the entry will not undo it.
A tag can be marked private in Settings → Privacy → Private tags. Entries carrying a private tag, or mentioning one, are never sent anywhere for AI features, whatever your other settings say.
5. Backups, restoring and deleting
- Export backup (Settings → Your journal) writes a file with your entries, photos and videos in it. Save it wherever you keep things you do not want to lose.
- Restore from backup reads one back. You are asked whether to keep what is already there or replace it.
- Delete everything removes your entries, photos, videos, tags and chats from the device, your iCloud and your other devices. It cannot be undone.
- Deleting the app removes its data from that device only. To remove the synced copy as well, use iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage.
- A backup file you already exported stays wherever you saved it. Deleting your journal does not touch it.
6. Membership, trials and cancelling
Writing, photographs, boards, the calendar and search are free and stay free. A membership pays for the parts that answer you: Ask, Talk and Ramble.
| Afterglow Monthly | $19.99 a month, after a 7-day free trial |
|---|---|
| Afterglow Yearly | $200 a year, after a 7-day free trial |
Prices are in US dollars and may differ in your region; the App Store shows your own price before you confirm. A subscription renews until you cancel it, and the trial becomes a paid period unless you cancel at least a day before it ends.
Afterglow never sees your payment details. Everything about billing is handled by Apple:
- To cancel or change a plan: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Afterglow. Cancelling leaves the membership running until the end of the period you have paid for.
- To ask for a refund: reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are Apple's decision, not ours.
- On a new phone, or after reinstalling: Settings → Membership → Restore.
If a purchase has gone through and the app still will not let you in, write to us with the date and we will look at it.
Subscriptions are covered by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement.
7. Privacy
No accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing sold. The full account of what is stored and what is sent is in the privacy policy, and the agreement for using the app is in the terms of use.
Still stuck?
Write to so.strange.apps@gmail.com. Telling us what you did, what you expected and what happened instead is usually enough; a screenshot is better still.
